Se é certo que muitas vezes temos motivos para pensar que o mundo está virado do avesso, não é menos certo que nos possamos encher de esperança quando a dor e o sofrimento dos outros é também a nossa dor.
E é essa dor que partilhamos com os que sofrem, que nos une e nos torna solidários e humanos.
A exemplo disso, 31 funcionários da Radius Aerospace aceitaram tomar parte no exaustivo e por vezes, doloroso desafio, conhecido como 3 Peaks Yorkshire Challenge, numa caminhada de 24 milhas (38.4km) a serem feitas em doze horas ou menos.
Todos estes 31 funcionários que tomaram parte neste evento o fizeram única e simplesmente para ajudar a instituição de caridade, Creat a Dream Foundation, a angariar fundos para a sua tão nobre causa.
Creat a Dream Foundation é uma instituição de caridade criada por um grande ser humano, Adam Ainger, para ajudar crianças e jovens gravemente doentes, em Sheffield e na região de South Yorkshire.
Segundo as próprias palavras da instituição de caridade, “Ajudamos a realizar os seus sonhos financiando presentes e experiências. Entendemos que os sonhos de cada criança podem ser tão variados e fantásticos quanto a própria criança. Pretendemos fazer tudo o que pudermos com os nossos recursos para tornar esses sonhos realidade.
Não importa o tamanho do sonho, faremos o que estiver ao nosso alcance para torná-lo realidade.
E foi precisamente com esse espírito que todos estes homens e mulheres se entregaram a este desafio. Que aceitaram com todo o amor genuíno e solidário para com estas crianças e jovens, bem como as suas famílias, dar do seu tempo e do seu esforço, porque se há algo que nos una verdadeiramente, é quando a dor dos que sofrem, é a nossa dor também.
Foi de facto um grande desafio. Exaustivo, doloroso e ao mesmo tempo para lá dos limites.
Se é verdade que o mundo muitas vezes nos parece estar do avesso, é com iniciativas destas e com a participação e prontidão dos que estão dispostos a dar o melhor de si em prol dos que sofrem, que se faz a diferença, nem que seja para proporcionar a estas crianças um breve sorriso nos lábios, sorriso esse que, infelizmente em muitos casos, será a última lembrança que fica na memória das suas famílias e amigos.
Apesar de uma grande aventura, foi também um grande dia, onde de apenas conhecimento como colegas de trabalho, se cimentaram amizades.
Como disse o Tony Charlesworth, “Viemos a este evento como colegas de trabalho, saímos daqui como família.”
Estão de parabéns todos aqueles que participaram neste desafio, e está de parabéns Adam Ainger por ter criado esta instituição de caridade ao serviço destas crianças e jovens, bem como as suas famílias.
Mas está também de parabéns Kevin Donohoe, presidente da Radius Aerospace Europe. Kevin está de parabéns por todo o apoio financeiro no patrocínio deste grande e nobre evento. Mas mais do que isso, e convém sublinhar que isso já não era nada pouco, Kevin está também de parabéns pela sua própria participação no evento, onde caminhou lado a lado com todos os participantes, completando as 24 milhas como um verdadeiro campeão.
– Os caminhos que te levam ao topo da montanha, não são iguais para todos. Não venceste por não teres feito o mesmo caminho de todos, mas venceste pela tua determinação em, apesar das circunstâncias, não teres desistido.
The pain that binds us together
If it is true that we often have reason to think that the world is turned upside down, it is no less true that we can believe in hope when the pain and suffering of others is also our pain.
And it is this pain that we share with those who suffer, that unites us and makes us solidary and human.
As an example of that, 31 Radius Aerospace employees agreed to take part in the gruelling and sometimes painful challenge, known as the 3 Peaks Yorkshire Challenge, a 24-mile (38.4km) walk to be done in twelve hours or less.
All these 31 employees who took part in this event did so solely and simply to help the charity, “Create a Dream Foundation,” raising funds for their noble cause.
Create a Dream Foundation is a charity set up by a great human being, Adam Ainger, to help seriously ill children and young people in Sheffield and the South Yorkshire region.
In the charity’s own words “Create a Dream Foundation are a registered charity setup to help seriously ill children and young people in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire region. We help to make their dreams come true by helping to fund gifts and experiences. We understand that the dreams of each individual child can be as varied and fantastic as each child themselves. We aim to do all we can with our resources to make these dreams a reality.
No matter the size of the dream, we will do what we can to make it come true.”
And it was precisely in this spirit that all these men and women have taken up this challenge. Which they have accepted with all the genuine and supportive love for these children and young people, as well as their families, to give of their time and their effort, because if there is something that truly unites us, it is when the pain of those who suffer, is our pain too.
It was indeed a great challenge. Exhausting, painful and sometimes beyond their limits.
If it is true that the world often seems to be upside down, it is with initiatives like this and with the participation of those who are willing to give the best of themselves for the benefit of those who suffer, that the difference is made. Sometimes if only to provide these children with a brief smile on their face. A smile that, unfortunately in many cases, will be the last remembrance that remains in the memory of their families and friends.
Although a great adventure, it was also a great day, from just getting to know each other better as co-workers, to friendships being cemented.
As Tony Charlesworth said, “We came to this event as work colleagues, we left here as a family.”
Congratulations to all those who participated in this challenge, and congratulations to Adam Ainger for creating this charity at the service of these children and young people, as well as their families, and for championing this event.
Moreover, a deserving congratulations to Kevin Donohoe, President of Radius Aerospace Europe. Congratulations for all the financial support in sponsoring this great and noble event. But more than that, Kevin is also to be congratulated for his generosity, friendship and for being so approachable and a pleasant person to have around. Not least for his own participation in the event, where he walked side by side with all the participants, completing the 24 miles like a true champion.
